Homework: Monday, April 11th - Monday, April 18th

This week there is a very simple nightly reading log in which the kids will record their books, minutes, and pages. There will also be a nightly writing assignment. The purpose of this assignment is to begin focusing more attention on handwriting, spelling, punctuation, and capital letters. There are still quite a few times when some of our writers are putting far too little effort into using what they know in regards to these areas. Eventually, as each of the kids demonstrate they are consistently doing their best to monitor their own writing they will no longer do the nightly assignment to practice. This may happen at different times for different writers.

Expectations for the nightly writing pieces:
Capital letters at the beginning of sentences and proper nouns
Punctuation at the end of each sentence
Careful handwriting
Personal best spelling (including spelling all words correctly they have visual access to)
The piece makes sense and is free of simple errors
A minimum of five to six sentences

Monday
Reading Log
Writing - Tell me all about something interesting or fun you did this past weekend.
Written Conversation - In your communication journal, have a written conversation about why you think the players on the US men's national soccer team are paid quite a bit more than the players on the US women's national soccer team, despite the fact the women's team wins a lot more often. Right now there are all sorts of people trying to make sense of this and decide if it is fair or not. What do you think? What would your solution be? Discuss this, in writing, with your parents. This is not due until next Monday, April 18th.

Tuesday

Writing - Explain to me how to play one of your favorite board games or card games at home.
