Dear Parents,
I'm so sorry for taking a break from the class newsletter these past few weeks. We spent that time working to prepare for and finish up standardized state tests in ELA and math. We are now just seven days from the end of the school year - which seems rather surreal. But more on that later.
Please know these final days are not too much different from any other day of school in August, November, or March. We're still hard at work while maintaining our normal schedule and structures. I found long ago the worse thing a teacher can do is to begin acting like it's all coming to an end soon. That's when chaos ensues! Also, we love reading books, writing powerful stories, and exploring math together. So this week the kids have been participating in small group book clubs, writing and publishing one last third grade piece to share with the class, and exploring probability. We are also writing a song to perform for the 5th graders next Wednesday at our final school Gathering. Our song is a parody of Queen's We Will Rock You, called We Will Miss You. It took us just an hour or so to write and now we'll spend the next few days rehearsing it.
I'll write one last newsletter next week in which I share my reflections and gratitude. In the meantime I have one plea to make to you all...if at all possible, please, please, please send your kids next Thursday for our final day of school. I know it's just a half-day but it's my opportunity to spend one last morning with them and to say goodbye. It's sad anyway but even more so when we're not all here together. Thanks!
Chris
