 Hello Everyone!

This week, the students were working hard as mathematicians, readers, and social scientists.

As mathematicians, we moved from working with subtraction through word problems to regrouping. The students used base ten blocks and rods as a way to help learn and visualize regrouping during subtraction.

As readers, we continued with our nonfiction study. We researched and identified different text features that authors include such as labels, photographs, table of contents and the glossary to help the reader better understand the information.

As social scientists, we learned about what a bill is and brainstormed our own ideas for the community. In addition, we learned about an equal pay bill that is currently being discussed and connected it to past events in history. At the end of the week, we had the pleasure of having Senator Mike Fanning visit the class to discuss his work as a senator and how our voices can be heard!

Next week, the students will continue to build on their knowledge of regrouping in subtraction and work towards completing larger computation problems. For reading, they will continue looking at nonfiction texts thinking about how they teach us things and how we can write our own. As citizens, we will continue to look at our government and bills.

Enjoy the weekend,

Ms. Schoenherr and Dr. Hass
