Newsletter: March 3rd - A Whole Lotta Reading!

 Dear Families,

Wednesday was "Read Across America Day." Many classrooms, schools, and entire districts planned special events to help their kids celebrate books and reading. In our classroom we devoted many parts of our day to read aloud, independent reading, and buddy reading. In the morning, we met up with our 1st grade book buddies on the front walk to read together. I can't even begin to describe just how much they love their 1st grade buddies. It is so heartwarming to see them together.

After sharing books they enjoyed morning break together on the recess field then had lunch with one another.

We also worked on our biographies. As you know, the kids have been hard at work on these projects for a couple weeks now. After completing all our research, we're now organizing our facts into chapters and paragraphs.

Most recently, we're taking all these notes and our outlines to begin writing. Everyone has crafted an introduction that teases their reader with just a little bit of information so they'll want to keep reading. We've also begun writing our first two chapters - focusing on writing complete sentences, forming paragraphs, and always checking to make sure we're giving enough information so our reader won't be confused.

To end, I'll share the book covers they've created. They are so much fun! A few of the kids are still working on theirs and asked that I not share them publicly just yet. That said, here are the ones that are good to go...
