1. Read each night. This week the kids have the opportunity to create their own reading log for each evening. They need to share the book title, the time spent reading, and then add some sort of response that demonstrates understanding of what they have read. How they choose to format this is up to them. We'll share these out with the class throughout the week so they need to bring these logs in with them each day.
2. This week we are launching a study of place value that will lead us to tackling larger and increasingly complex addition and subtraction problems (namely, those involving regrouping). The kids will eventually have a bit of homework reflecting this work in the classroom. However, I'm going to wait until they reach a comfortable spot in their learning to ensure that everything they bring home is something they can independently complete. For this reason, I'm not sure if it will come home on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday.
3. In a week or two the kids will be selecting a country they would like to research independently. We are now engaged in a whole-class study of China. Please be thinking about some possibilities. Next week I'll ask everyone to begin collecting resources from the library and internet.
