Newsletter and Homework

Greetings!

Homework for Wednesday 3/11/15: Finish multiplication sheet and reading

On Monday we began new inquiries in all content areas. In math we are studying perimeter and getting very skilled at measuring the perimeter of shapes in our classroom. We introduced a poetry unit on Friday and really began to dig in on Monday. The kids seem to really love poetry and have already produced some wonderful pieces. We will continue with poetry for another week or so and will finish by publishing a poetry book. We also began an investigation into the states of matter and have done some interesting experiments, including blowing up a balloon by mixing baking soda and vinegar in a soda bottle. There will be more exciting demonstrations to come! The kids have also really enjoyed our study of fairy tales. We are came up with categories of things that are typically included in fairy tales and are charting them as we read each story. The kids will have a chance to do this with their learning partners tomorrow.

This week I have taken on the role as lead teacher in the classroom for this week and next. Mr. Hass is in and out of the room throughout the day to help in certain areas. The kids have been great and have responded very well to the shift and I'm excited to see our growth by the end of next week.
