Yesterday we learned about some of the Earth's landforms, including islands, valleys, mountains, canyons, plains, and volcanoes. Valleys and canyons were formed because of water wearing down the rock, such as the Grand Canyon. We learned that volcanoes are the gateway to the Earth's interior and that some erupt from the top and some have lava that is constantly flowing. Islands form because of under water volcanic eruptions where the lava shoots out of the ocean and cools forming an island. Mountains are formed when two tectonic plates hit each other and push up rock that is formed into mountains. The plains are mostly grasslands that have no hills or valleys, but are flat and you can see for miles. Today we are going to build landform models with Nadia's grandmother!
