Here are some pics from the past week...
As part of our animal study, we've been exploring owl pellets the past few days. These are the digestive remains of rodents owls have swallowed whole. They are sterilized before our use! The kids have been going through and pulling out all the bones they can find then trying to reconstruct as much of the rodent's skeleton as they can - being sure to label each of the bones they have.
We've also been continuing our exploration into data and graphs. The kids created their own surveys last week then shared their results using both a bar graph and a pictograph. This week they are working to read and use the information from other people's graphs.
In reading we've been studying ourselves as readers to see what sorts of thinking we do in our heads while we are reading a text. To do this, I read a few books aloud to the kids and they stopped from time to time to jot down something they were thinking on a Post-It note. We then sorted the Post-It notes to come up with different categories that name the type of thinking some of us were doing. These included: Summarizing, Connecting the Story to our Lives, Connecting the Story to Other Stories We've Read, Thinking About a Character, Making a Prediction, and so on.
