Special Request for Thursday
Thursday is the final day of Morning Milers. This is a time, from 7:45 - 8:00, when the kids can go out to the track and enjoy a run or a walk with their friends. It's a great way to start the day. I come out every Wednesday to join the kids and often times try to sneak out one or two other days as well.
Coach G does a fantastic job of coordinating this even each Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday morning. As the kids accumulate miles she recognizes them in front of the whole school for reaching year-long milestones such as one mile, five miles, half-marathon, marathon, etc. She also tallies laps by class and the group with the most laps at the end of the year wins the "Stinky Sneaker Award."
With just one day left our class and Mrs. Breland's fifth graders are literally neck-and-neck. Their class won it last year by a landslide but we have been in the lead all of this year - which is pretty cool for being one of the younger classes in the school. A week ago we were ahead by 60 laps. I anticipate it's less than five now.
Tomorrow is our last day of Morning Milers and we'd love to have as many of the kids here by 7:40 as possible so they can join us in our final push to tally laps. I know not all families can do this due to morning routines that involve toting siblings to other schools. However, if you can make it we'd love to get as many kids as possible. We've not been competitive with this all year long as I've worked to keep the focus on participation, fitness, and fun. However, now that we're in the final days we are hoping to win!
