Time flies when you are having fun. One week has already passed with my solo teaching and we are enjoying our time together. As I mentioned during curriculum night, we are learning about geometry, weather and completing our country project presentations. Each day is a new day to inquire and learn from each other. Check out all the things we have been up to this week.
In math, we are learning geometry; specifically,
quadrilaterals and polygons. The
students have learned about the attributes of different shapes, such as the
number of angles, sides and vertices. We
are even making interactive math journals.
They are learning how to draw rhombuses, parallelograms and
decagons. The students used modeling
clay and toothpicks to make the shapes and then write down the attributes
in their notebooks. We will be working
on tangrams, which are dissection puzzles to form new shapes using shape pattern
puzzles.
In science and writing, the students are really enjoying our
weather discussions. They are learning
about wind direction, wind speed, temperatures and how to use a compass. The students use a Thermo-Anemometer
to find the above data which we will later graph. We are building up to our conversation about
seasonal temperature changes and why we have seasons. Lastly, students are working in groups to
learn about weather disasters. They are
making posters which will include information about their specific disasters,
such as tornadoes, hurricanes and mud slides, how those form, facts and safety precautions.
In social studies, the students are presenting their country
projects. The entire class has learned
so much by completing this project about different cultures around the world. We are all excited about eating different
cuisines on our final celebration day! I
will keep you posted on the celebration lunch day.
