Special HW Project This Weekend

The kids have been hard at work on their research projects into countries around the world. After studying China together as a class each of the kids selected a country they either had a personal connection to or were just interested in learning more about. Over the past week we've been studying all sorts of non-fiction text features (table of contents, headers, photos and captions, labels, etc). We've also been working to find important information and then boil it down to just a few words we can jot down on a sticky note.

For these projects, each of the kids selected four subtopics they wanted to explore in learning more about their country. These include areas such as people and culture, geography, nature, language, education, homes, religions and holidays, and so on. We created research books where we are sorting and storing the information we find on the internet.

The assignment for this weekend is to come back Monday with at least five facts collected for each of the four subtopics they have chosen. A few are pretty close to already having this completed. Most have two or three left to collect for each of the subtopics. A small handful have quite a lot to do this weekend to get caught up.

With your assistance I predict this can easily be completed in less than an hour. When they return on Monday with their facts we'll begin the process of turning our research into an informational text we can share with others. My goal with these projects is to complete at least 75% of the work here at school. They'll bring it home from time-to-time (such as with this weekend) to have you help check their progress and to get caught up if needed.

Thanks so much!
