Newsletter: March 28, 2018

Dear Families,
My final week of solo teaching has come to an end, unfortunately!  We have been working very hard on natural disasters, fractions, reading comprehension and poetry. Everyone in the class has been very helpful and a pleasure to work with over the past couple of weeks.  Thank you for allowing me to inquire, live and learn with all our your children.  Take a look at what we have been up to this week.

In math, we are learning about fractions.  The students have learned parts of a whole and what makes up a whole.  We have continued making interactive math journals.  They are learning about halves, thirds, fourths and fractions up to eighths.  We played games, such as parts of a whole and we will play musical chairs fractions!  Also, I wanted to include a picture of the students tangrams from last week’s geometry.

In science, the students have been presenting their weather disaster presentations.  We had a great time learning all about natural disasters and what to do if one were to occur.  We have continued to go outside each day and complete our weather charts.  We have had conversations about why we have seasons and why it is warmer in the summer than in spring.  Our future scientists are always happy to discuss science!

In writing, we have been discussing poetry.  The students have had opportunities to see the world through poets' eyes and write some poetry of their own.  It is amazing to watch them get so excited about learning rhythm and line breaks in their writing.  They will continue to write poetry after the break and even begin song writing.
