Distant Learning Day 6 - Wednesday

I must really be missing Hass vs Class (I was winning, right?) because we've started a competition in our house that is somewhat similar. Each day we play a different game as a family once everyone has finished their homework. Who wins the game (or is on the winning team) gains a point. There is one point possible each day. Whoever has the most points at the end of this Locked-In-Our-House experience is the winner. Yesterday was Round 1. We played a card game called "Spades." Here's a pic...

I don't know why Muluken was making that face but evidently Ainsley thought it was about the funniest thing in the world. Our oldest daughter, Harper, didn't play. She doesn't like games. But my mom (the kids' grandma) played and was on my team. We won! Check out the score after one day...

We're keeping it posted on a chalkboard in our kitchen. I did a good bit of gloating when I won. I'm sure you can imagine. Today's game will be another card game, Rummy.

I received a few pictures from you all yesterday. Here they are...

William's neighborhood is doing something really cool. Each house puts a stuffed animal
in their window and then people can go for walks around the neighborhood with their families
trying to find all the animals. It's sort of like a scavenger hunt. What a great idea!

Andrew finished his flag. His class motto was "When we work together we build together."

Jordyn created this amazing pic of Abraham Lincoln and then shared some facts
she'd researched.
So, I was thinking we should all try connecting tomorrow via a Google Meet (video chat). Yesterday I sent your parents your email addresses ( and you already know your password). Have your parents help you log into your Google email today from your home computer. I want to make sure you can get there. I'll send more info to your parents about this later.

Okay, here's the info you need for today's Day 6 packet assignment.

Reading - Read your independent reading book for 20 minutes. Also, read the "Computer vs Books" piece and answer questions 1-5.

Writing - Create a written response about your independent reading from today (like a reading log). It should have 5-6 sentences telling me what happened in the book, a few sentences telling me what you were thinking or noticing as you read, and another sentence or two making a prediction about what you think will  happen next.

Math - Today's "Must Do" sheet might seem a little confusing. Be sure to ask for help if you need it!

Science - It's Evaporation Day!

Social Studies - Choose an item from the list. As always, you could also share a news story. Now that you have your email address you could even log into Newsela to find one!
