Our New Song: Animals (All the World is Connected)

We recently finished writing a new class song. I wrote the first verse, taught the kids the melody, and then we wrote a couple of verses collectively. Once we had about three or four I sent the kids out in groups to write verses about animal habitats, bodies, families, and so on. I wrapped it up with a couple verses to bring the song to a close. We intended to have a chorus and maybe even a bridge but I was never able to settle on chords for those. No worries though, not all songs have a chorus.

We'll sing the song at Gathering next Friday. The plan is to stop throughout the song and the kids will share some of their animal research at the microphone while I continue to play the chords behind them. We've already practiced it a couple of times and it's beginning to sound great.

Here's the song. You'll notice names at the end of some verses. Those are the kids sharing facts at Gathering.

Animals (All the World it is Connected)

Animals are so cute and furry
They run around in such a hurry
Unless you count the old sloth bear
He’s so slow he barely goes anywhere

Some live in forests, some in oceans
Some habitats have a lot of commotion
All animals have a place to live
A den, a cave, or a pile of twigs
Habitat: Emma, Isaiah, Ratish

Animal bodies there are aplenty
They’ve been around for more ‘n a century
Red and green, bumpy and smooth
Some are jagged like an old shark tooth
Bodies: Marina, Joshua Coleman, Alex

All these animals they have to eat
Some like plants and some like meat
Others eat both they don’t care
Like the giant panda and the big black bear
Food: Chloe, Liam, Olivia L, Jada

Each and every one they have a mama
Like a blobfish and even a llama
Some come from eggs, some come live
Some are raised in a big beehive
Families: Krissy, Gracyn, Sophie

Some animals, they are endangered
Some are protected by the strong park ranger,
A lot of animals, there are a bunch
There’s a couple that you can munch
Population: Tyler, Dominique, Olivia R, Nadia

We eat animals all the time
We chop them up or eat them alive
Some are served on our plate
Some taste horrible, some taste great

Some animals are edible like a yabby
They might taste a little crabby
Sushi and soup, beef and pork
You can eat them with a fork
Eating animals: Eli and Joshua Bello

Animal attacks they really hurt
They might rip your favorite shirt
Animal attacks don’t happen much
You probably won’t become a lion’s lunch
Animal Attacks: Kaleel, Greg, Mr. H

We love animals yes we do
Don’t forget you are one too
All the world it is connected
Maybe that’s not what you expected

So do your part take care of others
Fathers, sisters, mothers, and brothers
Four legged, two legged, woman or man
You can make a difference yes you can

Remember, if you are planning to come to Gathering next week we will begin at 1:20, not the usual 2:20. This is because Passing of the Cans is immediately after our Gathering. You could stay for those festivities as well if you'd like!
