Homework week of 2/23

Good Afternoon!

For homework this week the class will be asked to do the following:

1) Reading Logs - Due Monday 3/2/15
To check in with everyone's reading habits at home we are asking the students to complete a reading log this week. They are to record the title, start time, end time, starting page, ending page, and a summary of the section they just read. Please ensure they are reading at least 20 minutes each evening, more if possible.

2) News Article - Due Monday 3/2/15
Sharing news articles is an important part of the day in our classroom. To help the students get the most out of the article they are sharing we are asking them to practice their paraphrasing skills this week. They have the news article printed out and are asked to highlight information they deem important, paraphrase it on the back, and write a few sentences stating their feelings about the article.

3) Gathering Sheet - Due Monday 3/2/15
For our next gathering, which is the week before Spring Break, we will be sharing our book trailers and the process we went through to make them. Since we just completed this work we are asking the class to go ahead and write down their part of the presentation now while it's fresh. They have all been assigned items to explain and need to write down what they are going to share on the back in the space provided.

4) Two-Page Draft - Due Friday 2/27/15
We have been studying adjectives in writing workshop for the past week and the students have been incorporating them into their pieces. Next week we will be publishing pieces, so we have asked that they have a start to finish, at least two pages, draft complete by Friday. We will have ample writing time during school this week so many students may finish during that time; however, some may need to work at home to complete their draft.

Thanks and we look forward to a great week!

Mr. Hass and Mrs. Jones
